Dates: Each camp lasts two weeks (Monday-Friday) for a total of 10 days. Our summer 2012 Young Writers Camps run weekdays from July 9-July 20.
Times: This is a half-day camp. UCSB offers two daily sessions-the first from 9-12:30 p.m. and the second from 12-3:30 p.m. Oxnard College offers one daily session from 12-3:30 p.m. Cal Lutheran offers one daily session from 9-12:30 p.m.
Locations: We offer writing camps at three locations: UCSB, Oxnard College, and Cal Lutheran University.
Grade Levels: The Young Writers Camp Programs are designed to offer students in grades 3-9 many opportunities to explore the varied facets of writing, regardless of skill level.
Enrollment: Enrollment is limited and is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. After returning your registration forms and payment, you will receive a letter confirming enrollment.
Cost: The fee is $285 for all single enrollments. A 10% discount is available to a family who is enrolling more than one child. (Example: a brother and sister enroll at $285 each, total $570 - subtract a 10% discount of $57 = $513.00 is the fee).
Cancellation: Cancellations made prior to June 29, 2012 will be refunded, minus $25.00 per enrollment for administrative costs. Cancellations made after June 29, 2012 will be refunded $175 per enrollment. Payment must be in the form of a check or money order; we are unable to accept cash or credit card payments. No refunds are granted once camp begins.
Scholarships: The Young Writers Camp tries to offer opportunities for partial scholarships that award fee discounts to families for whom financial assistance is a necessity. Students from such families must display a strong interest in writing and/or a desire to be enrolled in our program. If interested, you must phone (805) 893-5899 to request a scholarship packet in advance of the June 15, 2012 application deadline. A complete application and the liability waiver form must accompany the scholarship packet.
