SCWriP's 35th Invititational Summer Institute

The South Coast Writing Project is pleased to announce our 35th Annual Invitational Summer Institute in Composition and Critical Literacy. Our premier four-week professional development event will be held June 24th-July 19th, 2013, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-2:45 p.m., on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara.

If you are a classroom teacher seeking to improve your classroom practice or a school administrator looking to change the culture of your school, the SCWriP's Invitational Summer Institute is for you. During this four-week think-tank, teachers from all grade-levels K to college, across all disciplines collaboratively investigate best practices in writing and literacy instruction through shared demonstrations of practice, readings, and an intense focus on our own writing and reading processes.

As an affiliated site of the National Writing Project (NWP) and the California Writing Project (CWP), SCWriP seeks to transform the teaching of writing and literacy and strives to be a model of professional learning, teacher leadership, and reform. We do this by working with teachers, schools, districts, students, and families. Please join us.

SBCEO Portal Seeks SCWriP Training Partners


Do you use the SBCEO Portal in your classroom? If so, the Santa Barbara County Education Office would like your expertise. They are looking for teachers to conduct short, 1-hour trainings involving any K-12 subject that integrates a tool found on the SBCEO Portal. The important aspect for them is that it be an instructionally meaningful training, with particular interest in those that help address state standards. 

Why should you participate? Besides the obvious benefits of growing in your leadership and giving back to the teaching community, there is also a little extra pay involved.

Inquiry Groups: iPads, Web 2.0, and Interactive Whiteboards in the Classroom

The SCWriPTech committee created three different study groups to support each other as we further our understanding of how to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom. The groups are: 

1) Smartboards/Promethean Boards
2) Web 2.0 tools such as wikis and blogs
3) iPads in the classroom

Young Writer's Camp 2013

Registration materials for the Young Writer's Camp 2013 are available now! The half-day camps for students are offered July 15th - 26th at UCSB, grades 3-9 and at Cal-Lutheran University, grades 4-9. Half-day camps are also offered July 15th - August 1st at Oxnard College, grades 4-9 and Ventura College, grades 5-9. Camp cost is $285. Applications are due by May 31st. Please check back periodically or contact the SCWriP Office at 4scwrip@education.ucsb.edu for futher information.
