The Invitational Summer Institute in Composition and Critical Literacy:

A month-long think-tank for teachers of all grade levels and all subjects

SCWriP’s Summer Institute provides a supportive, dialogic environment where teachers come together to explore possibilities as writers, teachers, and leaders. Participants form a collaborative learning community where they engage in personal and professional writing, share successful teaching practices, discuss current research, and learn about emerging technologies.

For four weeks in the summer, participants meet together with a distinguished staff of resident and visiting scholars, educators, writers, researchers, theoreticians, curriculum specialists, and, most importantly, outstanding classroom teachers from South Coast schools and colleagues like you!

Meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, participants inquire into their own successful approaches to teaching writing and critical literacy, examine current theory and the results of recent research, write extensively, and provide helpful feedback on each other’s writing in small response groups.

At the conclusion of the Summer Institute, participants are designated University Fellows of the South Coast Writing Project and are granted a fellowship stipend for their participation in the Institute and follow-up program. As a SCWriP Fellow you are available to work as a paid teacher-consultant for inservice programs conducted throughout the regular academic year.
