Date:Jan 30, 2012 at 5:00pm
Our next technology meeting will be on Monday, January 30, from 5-7:30 pm. If you'd like to attend, contact Nicole Schon: email@example.com.
Here's a brief summary of what is going on in the SCWriPTech world:
Be on the lookout for an invitation to join SCWriP's NWP Connect site. This is where our new website is under way, and the techcommittee will preview it at the meeting to provide feedback.
Social Media Committee:
Among other things, we've been working to think about how SCWriP wants to interact with social media, what types of social media would be useful to fellows, and how we can create a fairly steady stream of content to post on social media sites. We'll share about this at the meeting .
Professional Development Programs
ITT Technical Institute: Technology for Teaching and Learning
Two of our fellows, Lorna and Camille, did a fabulous job planning and teaching this Thursday 3-hour PD. They can share more about what they did at the meeting.
RJ Frank Open Series: Technology for Teaching and Learning
After many phone conversations, we've established a four-Thursday open series to take place in February and March at RJ Frank. More details to come
S. Stephen Marcus Fund Grant Awarded:
Our committee received funds for inquiry groups to explore three different areas of technology in the classroom:
2) Wikis and Blogs
3) Interactive Whiteboards
The grant included funds for an iPad that the tech committee can loan out to teachers for use in the classroom, and it also included funds to help partially fund one or more fellows to go to the ISTE conference in San Diego this June. An email went out about this, tucked into a longer list of opportunities Tim sent out right before the holidays.
Digital Learning Day
The inaugural Digital Learning Day will take place February 1st. I sent an email out about the event sometime last week. If you use digital technology in the classroom and would like to share a sample of what you're doing, this day is for you (and your students, of course).
Tim and I will be meeting with the technology department at SBCEO on January 11 to discuss possible collaborations that could take place between our two organizations. There's a good chance that someone from SBCEO will also be coming to our tech committee meeting for a bit to continue that discussion.
