New Year's E-Blast

The New Year has started fast here in the SCWriP office and as a result
we have lots of information to pass along.

Ventura County Planning and Development Meeting: The second of our three
P&D meetings will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 4:30-6:00.
Mary Walzer ('03) has graciously arranged for SCWriP to use the library
at Rio del Valle in Oxnard. The school is conveniently located just off
the 101 at 3100 Rose Avenue. Exit the freeway and go north (away from
Sam's Club and WalMart, toward the car dealerships).

At this meeting we will take stock of where SCWriP is and where we want
to go. I will provide an update on programming and funding and solicit
input. As I've written before, the loss of federal funding puts the
National Writing Project at a
crossroads. For this and other reasons, SCWriP is too. Come help us
decide which road to take. You are SCWriP, after all.

Common Core Open Series: SCWriP is pleased to announce a 15-hour series
on the Common Core State Standards for ELA and Literacy. The series
alternates Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:15-8:15 for five weeks,
2/23-3/22. The flier is attached for more details. Please help SCWriP
publicize this, and consider attending yourself.

SCWriP Website: Next week we will send you an invitation to view
SCWriP's new website. Thanks to Nicole Schon ('09) for her extensive
work on this. She and the Tech Committee will be reaching out in the
coming weeks and months to further develop this site.

NCTE: The deadline for submitting proposals for next year's Annual
Convention in Las Vegas is January 19, 2012. I am happy to help you put
together a session. http://www.ncte.org/annual

CATE: It's too late to present, but you can still attend CATE's annual
meeting in Ontario, CA this February 9-12. Chella Courington ('03) is
presenting, Mark Olsen ('11) will receive an Excellence in Teaching
award and Sheridan is a keynote speaker. http://www.cateweb.org/index.html

And by the way, /California English/ is still accepting manuscripts on
"The best professional development I have experienced." Write about the
Summer Institute and get published!

Digital Learning Day: CWP is the statewide sponsor of the first Digital
Learning Day to be held February First. For more, please go to
http://www.californiawritingproject.org/DLD/digitallearningday.html

There is more, but you will have to go to the new website next week to see.
