Annual Meeting Session B14: The Role of the NWP Site Director in the New Landscape with Lil Brannon (NC Charlotte WP) and Karen Hamlin (OWP at Willamette)

We are inviting session participants and others to join us in an on-going conversation about ways in which site director work has changed in this new era of funding, along with the challenges we have faced and the resources and strategies we have found most promising in supporting and sustaining the work of our sites.  Our hope is to use this forum as a way to compile and share across sites the ideas and resources that emerge both during and after this Annual meeting session.

Responses

I have heard many directors in this session and others today say that their role as a director will not change, but the work may shift to add more grant writing, fund raising, and/or marketing.

Frankly, this shift does feel like a change in role for me, focusing more on seeking alternative sources of funding.  (I'm not complaining about it, just noting that I'm needing to spend quite a bit more time on these priorities now.)  As a site director, I feel I need to take the lead in helping the site shift in culture to think more about fund-raising, including taking a constructive stance toward cultivating and sustaining relationships with potential donors.  The Fund-raising materials linked off this site are very helpful in this regard.
