The Making and Technical Writing Conference in 2011 was supported by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Missouri Writing Project Network (MWPN), and the National Writing Project’s Digital Is website supported by the John D. and Catherine T. The statewide two-day professional development conference for K-12 educators focused on Making and Technical Writing and was held September 15-16, 2011.

Participants explored the connections between hands-on projects and technical writing. Teachers and administrators learned about Common Core Standards, technical and informational writing, integrated literacy through invention and hands-on projects, and digital writing. The conference was free for K-12 teachers statewide with a special emphasis on Career and Technical Center educators.
