Saw this mention of digital badges as an alternative process of certification in the Education Life section of the New York Times today.
I like the statement in the article from Connie Yowell, director of education at the MacArthur Foundation: “We really believe that we’re launching a national conversation about what skills matter and how those skills get assessed.”
The article in the Times is a very superficial treatement of the issue. So in case you're interested in learning more, here's a link (missing from the Times piece) to the DML Badges for Lifelong Learning space. And here's a link to a post with his perspective on badges written by Bud Hunt, of the Colorado State University Writing Project, at his popular blog, Bud the Teacher.
What are your thoughts about digital badges?
