A working retreat centered on building site capacity to better serve the needs of English language learners. 20 sites building capacity to serve English language learners or with expertise to share will attend. This retreat is designed to provide support and expertise from across the NWP network. Along with colleagues from the English Language Learners Network, the institute will explore questions including

• What are successful strategies for teaching writing in the ELL classroom?
• How can your site create opportunities for learning with and from teachers of English language learners?
• How does your site work with teachers facing new populations of students?
• What kinds of professional development programs have sites created for teachers of English language learners?

The institute will be planned and facilitated by a team of directors and teacher-consultants from sites across the country and will be structured around the needs and interests of those sites who participate. More...
