My name is Daniel Boster, and I am a co-director of the Nebraska Writing Project and an English teacher at Ralston High School in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition, I am the editor, with Marni Valerio, of the book What Teaching Means: Stories from America's Classrooms (Rogue Faculty Press, April 2012).
You may be familiar with this project since I sent the "call for submissions" through the NWP leaders networks last spring. I know that many of you encouraged 2011 SI participants to submit, and we really appreciate it. Many Writing Project TCs sent stories, and we did choose several of them for inclusion in the publication.
I am pleased to announce that 23 of the 39 pieces that will appear in What Teaching Means: Stories from America's Classrooms are written by people who mentioned WP sites in their biographies. The sites represented are: Northern California, Greater Madison, Middle Tennessee, Northwestern (Louisiana) State University, U.C.L.A., Minnesota, Western Pennsylvania, Southern Maine, Florida Gulf Coast, Red River Valley (North Dakota), Denver, Nebraska, Bay Area (California), Oregon, and Cal State Northridge. Please inform those in your network about the work of their colleagues.
The influence of NWP thinking is well-documented in this collection. I believe it is a testament to the great work that all Writing Project sites and Writing Project TCs do. In addition, we were simply amazed by the insightful, beautiful, and powerful writing that we were lucky enough to receive. Clearly, these folks are skilled writers in addition to being amazing teachers.
