As some of you may know, a number of NWP teachers attended the John D.
and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s supported Digital Media and
Learning Conference a couple of weeks ago. There, they facilitated a
conversation on writing in schools in its multiplicity of forms,
participated in panel conversations on equity in public schools, and
presented Ignite talks.
They also engaged in ideas around “Connected Learning,” a
research-based initiative that I think all of you will find of interest
as it focuses on socially mediated learning that is interest-driven and
involves peer collaboration that transcends the physical boundaries of
the traditional school. For more, watch the video at the bottom of this
new “Connected Learning” website (and explore the site):

Additionally, check out researcher and author Mimi Ito live as she
discusses youth engagement and Connected Learning with Steve Hargadon
TODAY (March 12) at 3 pacific/6 eastern:

And if you get a chance, make sure you read and comment upon an
interview with Elyse Eidman-Aadahl from the DML Conference in which she
discusses re-envisioning writing in a networked age:

Finally, I invite those of us who attended DML – Paul Allison, Antero
Garcia, Bud Hunt, Lacy Manship, Katie McKay, Meenoo Rami, Chad Sansing,
Christina Cantrill, and Elyse – to add their thoughts about their
experiences, here or at Digital Is and/or NWP Connect, and fill in what
I’ve left out. (Check out their blogs, too, as some have already posted
reflections.)
