Welcome, all, to the 2011 Focus on English Language Learners Inservice Institute. As we inhabit this brand new NWP Connect space, we invite you to chime in and say hello. We'd love to start out with this prompt: Tell us what you left behind to come here.

Welcome to Cleveland! As members of the host site, NWP at Kent State University, Kate, Teri and I hope that the ELL Institute is as productive and enjoyable as we think it will be. If there's anything we can help you with, please ask :-)
Hi everyone
I left behind a week of 90 degree heat and a bunch of tasks I was happy to put off: housework, an editing job and garden weeding. Thank you NWP and the Kent State Site!
I left 8 year old Cecilia who turns 9 on Friday. While she is telling everyone that her mom is gone, she is happy knowing I'm with my writing teacher friends.
Hello Everyone! I'm delighted to leave the 115 degree heat index while hiding in the AC wrapping my brain around the Common Core Standards. I am looking forward to this ELL Inservice Institute and the sharing of ideas! Thanks so much to NWP and the amazing host site, Kent State!
Hi! I'm reluctantly leaving behind my 16 month old son, Samson, who will make sure the dog is well fed every morning. I'm also leaving behind my father, who was released from inpatient rehab on Thursday after having a stroke in March.
Heading to Cleveland to expeience this institute, I left behind many things. I first left behind the beach, amazing summer weather, and my high-maintenance dog who is missing me far less than i am missing her. Along with this, I left behind the excitement and nerves of starting a new school year (in less than 3 weeks) at a new school with a new grade and content. While I left behind fun and work, I am excited to be here to learn and grow as a person and a teacher. Looking forward to a great institute.
I left behind a darling dog, three cats, and a yard that will need to be weeded again because it is just too blazing hot to get out there and do it! I drove up to Temperance, Michigan last night, hung out at the pool with my husband and two kids and then they drove me here this afternoon. I am looking forward to a great session here in Cleveland - thanks to all of you who put it in such hard work to bring us together!
I left the preparations for my mom's seventieth birthday, which is next month. My sisters aren't too happy! So in a way, I'm getting a much-needed break from those duties.
I left my year old granddaughter who gives me hugs, kisses, and takes time to smell the flowers. She grabs hold of my hand and helps me slow down to enjoy the beauty around us.
