Dakota Writing Project

The Dakota Writing Project (DWP), a non-profit teachers' organization affiliated with the National Writing Project and the USD English Department, collaborated with the South Dakota Department of Education to provide professional development on the Common Core Standards. This summer, the DWP and the Dept. of Education developed hands-on, interactive sessions focusing on the Common Core in language arts, tapping the skills and experience of twenty-four DWP teachers from across the state. DWP teachers delivered professional development in 36 day-long sessions to over 1400 teachers at all grade levels (K-12), with sessions scheduled at centralized locations, including Aberdeen, Chamberlain, Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls. Additional professional development is being planned for the 2013 spring.
